Why It Works

Throughout our lives the Body and the Brain need to exercise. We exercise for continued health, strength and fitness.  If we swim for exercise, we maintain and improve our ability to swim as well as the other health benefits we gain from moving our bodies.  Functional movements, cognitive behaviors, and balance skills also all improve with practice. The brain controls the body and our exercise should impact both the physical body and the neurological brain...

My Love of Delay the Disease & Better Balance 101

May 27, 2022

In early December 2013, I was told “Sharon you have 1 month to clean up your case load or you are fired.” Panic made my tremors worse.  I could barely type or write. They had switched to a new software of box checking.  Quick with a steady hand but not … Read more

Delay the Disease

Delay the Disease™ is an evidence-based fitness program designed to optimize physical function and help delay the progression of symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease. This wellness program is a combination of focus on a person’s Core, Cardio, and Brain.  The class gently develops core strength for balance supplemented by light cardio to increase the heart rate. An increase in heart rate has been shown to increase firing in the brain and lead to results in cognitive enhancement and maintenance when it is combined with memory drills and sequential patterns. The series of exercises consists of activating the muscles in your feet, walking drills to help aid in gait issues, posture drills, hand dexterity drills, balance, and brain drills.

Since 2018, I have taken my Personal Training experience in a very focused direction.  I am a certified and licensed instructor for Delay The DiseaseTM, an evidence-based fitness program designed to optimize physical function and help delay the progression of symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease.  Focusing on supporting this population for general health and fitness, I have developed additional classes and now offer a variety of balance, brain training, yoga, and personal fitness classes each week, including both live classes and virtual classes using Zoom.

In the next chapter of my journey, I want to reach as many people as I can to help them to:

Be Balanced. Be Safe.

"I have been participating in Jeannine's Delay the Disease exercise classes for almost 3 years since I was first diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. I currently attend 3 virtual classes and 1 in-person session per week. The benefit to my functionality has been extremely positive. Jeannine is non-judgmental and devoted to helping those with Movement Disorders. The physical exercises are challenging, but all of them can also be done while sitting in a chair. The "brain games" help to keep your mind sharp and they build confidence. The classes have made me physically stronger and my energy level has greatly improved. The added perk is that I have met some of the nicest people I have ever known.  The opportunity to connect with those who share the same obstacles that I face has been invaluable"
